"Guests have been enjoying unique and memorable experiences at Miharotia House for over six years"(View our guestbook)
Polly and Trevor welcome you to Miharotia House. Miharotia originates from the indigenous language of New Zealand, Maori. Once translated, Miharotia means, "to wonder at or admire". Polly & Trevor chose this name to reflect their heritage and the panoramic views of the Kaikoura ranges and Pacific Ocean. Polly was born and raised in Kaikoura, she is of Ngai Tahu decent and her family history is recorded circa 1840 at the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. She enjoys discussing her heritage and has gathered a small collection of books about Kaikoura and local Maori History in the library for those that wish to develop that knowledge. She is also a certified Nurse Aid at Kaikoura Hospital and volunteers for the local community. Trevor was born in the North Island and has lived the past 30 years in Kaikoura. A skilled abalone diver, Trevor has fished the surrounding coastline for the past 20 years. Discover his passion for the area and his conservation efforts with other local fisherman for sustainable fishing. Both Polly & Trevor are avid golfers and gardners, their passion, dilgence and hardwork was rewarded with "Best Garden view from the Street, Kaikoura" 2007 & 2008 as voted by the local city council. One extremely large, lazy, sun loving orange cat epitomises the relaxed lifestyle and atmosphere at Miharotia. Learn more about Miharotia House, our bed and breakfast in Kaikoura and discover some of the reasons why more than one million tourists visit Kaikoura every year. |
