Kaikoura Whales

Kaikoura is well-known for its whales, which are sighted off its shores. If you visit Kaikoura to see the whales, you may see the mighty sperm whale, southern right or humpback whales.

Orca are also occasionally seen. Aside from whales, you may also see dolphins and bird life. Kaikoura is visited by many whales because of the deep sea trench - the Hikorangi Trench - which offers whales an abundant food supply.
